President of Catholic Family Event Funded Planned
Parenthood Director’s Political Campaign
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC – The Lepanto Institute is reporting that the president of the World Meeting of Families (WMoF), which is an event taking place in Philadelphia this September, has contributed thousands of dollars to political candidates who strongly oppose Catholic teaching on abortion and same-sex marriage.
WMoF president Robert Ciaruffoli funded a number of pro-abortion and pro-homosexual political candidates including Allyson Schwartz, the founder and former executive director of a local Planned Parenthood facility.
“The Church simply can’t afford to have event leaders so cozy with Planned Parenthood’s political cheerleaders,” said Michael Hichborn, president of the Lepanto Institute. "Especially at a time when Planned Parenthood is under investigation throughout the country for harvesting and selling the organs of preborn children."
The report by the Lepanto Institute shows that Ciaruffoli contributed $8,300 to political candidates who promote abortion and same-sex marriage.
“No Catholic who would give money to further the political career of a Planned Parenthood executive should be in a leadership position for such a major Catholic event,” said Hichborn. "In the interest of maintaining the integrity and Catholic identity of the World Meeting of Families, the Lepanto Institute is calling on Ciaruffoli to resign from this position."
